The Francke Foundation

Established in 1698, the foundation comprises a unique educational facility with over 50 buildings from three centuries as well as 45 different educational institutions and numerous museums. They are the center of the European Enlightenment and Francke’s Pietism. In addition to the oldest custom-built library in Germany, here you will find the highest and longest half-timbered house in Germany. You should definitely take your children to visit the unique children’s creative center, the ‘Krokoseum’, in the historic orphanage building. The play-house is an inside tip for older children.
